Rev Up Your Revenue: Step #3 Goal Setting

Just like you, I’m as resistant to setting goals for my business as anyone else. Why?

Setting a goal means using a lot of brain energy to determine where I am and where I want to be. It’s easier to just keep on doing what I’m doing… whether it is working well or not.

Setting a goal means I am committing to something that is important to me and that I will expend the necessary energy to achieve it, whether I am in the mood or not.

Setting a goal means that I run the risk of failing at achieving the goal which is discouraging. It also means I may achieve my goal which is encouraging and exciting.

Given all the pros and cons of goal setting, I believe if you are in business, it’s important that you set goals and this is especially true if you want to rev up your revenue. When you set a goal it gives you clarity (there’s that word again!) and direction for your business. Otherwise you may find yourself pulled in a dozen or more different directions. At the end of the year you may find that you have accomplished little of what you hoped for and you are exhausted and overwhelmed anyway.

How do you create a goal that that is simple yet powerful? Don’t worry. I’m not going to talk about SMART goals again. Let’s make it as easy as possible:

From X (where you are now) to Y (where you want to be) by (date) because (the why behind your business and your goal).

Here are some examples:

From making $3,000 a month to making $5000 a month in chiropractic services by the end of 2023 because people deserve to live pain free.

From selling 3 houses a month to selling 6 houses a month by the end of 2023 because people deserve to live in a home they can love.

From selling 20 books a month to selling 40 books a month by the end of 2023 because school counselors deserve to have lessons plans that are easy to follow and meaningful.

From teaching 20 clients a month to teaching 40 clients a month by the end of June 2023 because yoga helps people live more comfortably.

From working in my business 6 hours a day 5 days a week to working in my business 6 hours a day 4 days a week by December 2023, because I serve clients best when I have time for myself to renew my energy.

Now its your turn. Create 3 goals around your business. At least two of them need to relate to the profitability of your business and the third can be a personal goal. Then stay tuned for how to take the next step.
